Newark has proudly held a market in the town market place since the 12th century and was the first town in England to hold a market on a Wednesday.  The market place itself is one of the most attractive market places in the UK containing many historic and heritage rich buildings.

The weekly markets are held on:

  • Monday (except Bank Holidays) - collectors/antiques market
  • Wednesday - general retail market
  • Thursday - collectors/antiques market
  • Friday - general retail market
  • Saturday - general retail market

Regular stall holders include fruit and vegetables, cut flowers and plants, clothes, shoes and leather goods, bread and cakes, fresh fish, pet foods, crafts, bedding, meat, free range eggs, fabrics, jewellery, watches and watch batteries/repairs, containers, books and carpets.

Special or season markets are also held throughout the year.  These include:

  • Every first Saturday in the month (March - December) - Farmers Market
  • Every last Saturday in the month - Collectors/Antique quarter
  • Every last Sunday in the month - Artisan Craft and Food market
  • June - Annual Food and Drink Festival
  • July - Newark Book Festival and Newark Traditions Festival
  • Last Sunday in November - Newark Christmas Lights Switch On
  • December 14th and 15th 2019 - Newark Christmas Market and Winter Feast

Stall and pitch fees:

We are always looking for new traders and we can offer an introductory rate of £10 per stall per day for three months to help you get started, or even just £1 per stall if you wish to try market trading as a new venture.

General fees for Wednesday and Saturday apply for Casual traders (£24) and Licensed traders (£20).  Fridays - £19 and £16.  Mondays and Thursdays - £15.
