LocAle & Weinfest

The 1st Newark LocAle and Weinfest took place over the weekend of 26-28 June 2009 and was a huge success.  The weekend saw well over 6,000 visitors come through the gates of Newark Castle Gardens to enjoy the many local beers and german wines that were on offer.

The event saw the best of the British weather with scorching temperatures throughout the weekend.  There were excellent performances on stage by many local and international artists.  Friday's line up included a performance by the Ransome Band, followed by a set from the Unusual Suspects.  Saturday saw a lively evening programme with sets from Calling for Heroes and Filthy Smith.  Sunday had a more relaxed feel with performances including the Decent Chaps, Bamber Bridge Music - Love Story and Joseph Lee Jackson, the lead singer of the world famous Mercury.
With the event drawing to a close at 6pm on Sunday afternoon CAMRA had a fantastic weekend, selling their final 1/2 pint at 5.59pm - selling out completely!  The six wine growers from Germany also had an excellent weekend, selling a variety of wines from the Baden Region, along with traditional German bakers selling the famous Flammekuchen and a Hog Roast provided by the Bowser Brothers.
The 1st LocAle and Weinfest was organised to celebrate the 25th Twinning Anniversary between Newark and Emmendingen in Germany.  Over the weekend, a 200 strong delegation from Germany visited our town, along with guests from our twin town in Sandomierz, Poland.  Our visitors had an exciting weekend, many being hosted with local families or staying in hotel accommodation in the town.
Newark Town Council would like to thank all those who participated in the event.
The 2nd LocAle and Weinfest is due to take place in 2011 - more details to be published nearer the date.
