Museum

In September 1999 Newark Town Council opened a fully accredited Civic Museum.

The Museum in the Town Hall is open from 10.30am until 3.30pm Monday to Saturday and is supported by volunteer guides.  The Town Hall was designed in Palladian style in 1776 by the eminent architect John Carr of York.  Rooms within the Town Hall form part of the Museum and house a fine collection consisting of historic civic plate, gifts, furniture, ceramics and paintings dating from the 17th century.

 
 

You can also visit the elegant 18th century Assembly Room, the historic Council Chamber overlooking the Market Place, the welcoming Mayor’s Parlour and much, much more.

We are family-friendly and have on-going activities for children and schools.

Opening hours: 10.30am to 3.30pm Mondays to Saturdays. Wheelchair access.

Museum Volunteer Guides

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, guiding visitors around the Town Hall, please contact the Curator on 01636 680333.

The work involves weekly stints of two and a half hours and occasional Saturdays.  Full training is given.
