Lieutenant Colonel Sam Derry

Submitted on 07 January 2015 by Helen Crossland

The portrait of Lt Col Sam Derry which was gifted to the Town by the Derry family is now hanging in its permanent position in the Council Chamber, along with other Civic dignitaries.  The painting was donated to mark the birth in 1914 of Lt Col Derry and his huge contribution to Newark as both a war hero and a Councillor.

Visitors wishing to see the portrait can do so between 10.30am and 3.30pm Monday to Saturday when the museum is open.

The image below is the oil painting that is now hanging in the Council Chamber, at the Town Hall.
